Library Renovation Project

The staff and Board of Maplewood Public Library would like to extend our gratitude to the community for your support in passing our 2024 bond issue! While our primary goal was waterproofing, we had numerous projects we hoped to complete using these funds; see below for updates on our planned projects as of our reopening date, October 2nd, 2025:

Project: Waterproofing and repairing water damage
Status: The damage done from years of leaks has been remedied, and waterproofing is mostly complete. The scope of work was much broader than anticipated and was a cause for many of the delays we experienced. Waterproofing was and remains our number one priority, so we will continue to seek solutions for the few remaining issues.

Project: Upgrade HVAC and security systems
Status: We are still experiencing issues with our HVAC systems. The units on the roof have been replaced, but the controls are not working properly. If you see dehumidifiers around the Library or feel warm or cool spots throughout the building, please bear with us! Burglar and fire alarm systems were successfully upgraded, as were our security cameras and the elevator emergency phone.

Project: LED lighting throughout the building
Status: Done, and with a partial grant from Ameren Missouri BizSavers!

Project: Expanded Local History room, reconfigured restrooms, and the addition of two study rooms on the lower level
Status: Done! See staff for a tour of the Local History Room, and email info@maplewoodpubliclibrary.org to reserve a study room!

Project: Improved plaza including benches, landscaping, bike repair station, and replacing stone pavers with smooth concrete
Status: Mostly done- we're still waiting on the bike repair station!

Project: Cosmetic updates including paint, flooring, and furniture
Status: We are patiently waiting for the delivery of two café tables for the Reading Room and a display table for the periodical section. We are also missing wall graphics and some signage. You might also see some folks working on flooring. In short, we're still working on this one!

Project: New shelving and storage
Status: We have a couple of replacement shelves coming for the downstairs units, so you may see us swapping those out, but otherwise, this project is also complete.
