About Us

The Friends of the Maplewood Public Library is a nonprofit organization working in partnership with the Maplewood Public Library to promote its resources and services, strengthen its programs, and build lasting community support.

In June 2025, the Friends of the Maplewood Public Library Board of Directors was formed, comprised of volunteers who care deeply about the role libraries play in literacy, learning, and community enrichment. The Friends received its Certificate of Incorporation for a Nonprofit Organization from the state of Missouri in July 2025. Then in December 2025, the IRS approved the Friends of the Maplewood Public Library as a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization.

Although the Friends of the Maplewood Public Library is a legally distinct entity and is not part of the Maplewood Public Library, it works collaboratively with the library and supports it by:

  • Raising funds to enhance library programs, collections, and services
  • Encouraging charitable gifts, memorials, and bequests that benefit the library
  • Providing volunteer support for library initiatives and events
  • Advocating for the library’s mission, and fostering positive relationships between the library and the community

Through these efforts, the Friends help ensure the Maplewood Public Library remains a welcoming, accessible, and vital resource for all.

Any individual, business, or group interested in supporting the Maplewood Public Library may become a member of the Friends by paying annual dues. Maplewood residency is not required.
